Fertilizers for indoor plants
There are many different recommendations and advice on how to apply fertilizer to flowers, which describes the necessary trace elements and minerals that they need for full growth and development. But this information will not be enough without recipes for houseplant fertilizers that you can make yourself. Of course, it is possible, and in some cases simply necessary, to use purchased fertilizers, but the fact that they are of high quality cannot be completely sure. And the cost of some types of fertilizers is incredibly high. That is why a huge number of flower growers prepare these fertilizers with their own hands at home.
Making fertilizers with your own hands for indoor plants
Fertilizers for indoor plants are organic and mineral. However, in order to properly make them at home, you need to know not only what "ingredients" are included in the composition, but also in what proportions they should be mixed.
First, you need to mix water with a mullein in a 2: 1 ratio. After that, the resulting solution is left to ferment. After waiting for the fertilizer to ferment, water is added to it in a ratio of 5: 1 (5 parts of water, 1 - solution).
This fertilizer is best suited for feeding decorative deciduous plants and flowering plants, and it is produced once a week. If you feed a flowering plant during the budding period, as well as flowering, then it would be nice to add 1 g of fertilizer to half a liter of fertilizer. superphosphate.
In 1 l. water should be put 100 gr. nettle (fresh). After that, it is necessary to leave the mixture for infusion for 24 hours, having previously tightly covered the container. Then the resulting fertilizer must be filtered and diluted with plain water in a ratio of 1:10. This solution perfectly restores depleted soil and enriches it. If you want to use dried nettles, then only 20 grams will be enough. per liter of water.
Fertilizer for flowering indoor plants
In 1 l. water you should add 1 gram of ammonium sulfate and potassium salt (30-40% concentration). And also 1.5 grams of simple superphosphate. Use for watering once every 7 days.
Fertilizer for ornamental deciduous plants
In a liter of water, you need to dissolve half a gram of simple superphosphate, 0.1 g. potassium nitrate and 0.4 gr. ammonium nitrate. Fertilizer is also used to feed plants once every 7 days.
The components of these fertilizers can be purchased at any flower shop, or that is intended for summer residents and gardeners.
It should be remembered that there are substances that are part of mineral fertilizers, which, although not poisonous, are quite harmful to humans. In this regard, the preparation of fertilizers should be done outside the living quarters, and even more so, do not do this in the kitchen.
Organic fertilizers most often have a very specific smell. Therefore, plant feeding should be done in a sufficiently well-ventilated room or outdoors during the warm season.

Fertilizers for indoor plants
Good time everyone! Recently I heard about the fertilizer for indoor plants "Domotsvet", who knows what about it? A friend says that she helps the plants to grow a lot. How often should it be used? Can anyone have experience in using this fertilizer?
Domotsvet did not use. There are many different fertilizers, I usually buy some kind of universal, not expensive. The method of applying any fertilizer is described in detail on the label. Usually they are applied 1-2 times a month, not more often.
We have another fertilizer for indoor flowers, it is liquid, we pour it into water with a cap, and then we water the flowers. I tried it - this fertilizer for cucumbers, nothing happened, there is one empty flower.
We do not have this on sale, how many fertilizers I bought, but I did not meet this in the flower shop and the seller did not offer anything new, I will have to look at it again on the counter.
Domotsvet is a growth stimulant. Suitable for freshly planted or weakened plants, also at the time of flowering. According to the instructions, it should be applied once every 1-2 weeks (depending on the condition of the plant), but I often use the “prophylactic” option, dilute 1-2 drops in 0.5 liters of water, and spray all home flowers once a month.
I fertilize indoor flowers, liquid complex fertilizer for indoor flowers. I breed two caps in 1.5 liters of water and water the plants. In winter I fertilize once a month, and in summer, every 10 days.
What plants need nitrogen
First of all, this microelement is necessary for vegetable crops. In order to grow a rich harvest at home, you need to fertilize with nitrogen such vegetables as pumpkin, cabbage, zucchini, eggplant, peppers, potatoes. They need to be fed during planting and during active growth and flowering. Also, large quantities of nitrogen are required for fruit and berry plants (raspberries, cherries and blackberries.) And ornamental crops (rose, peony, violet, etc.). These crops need a higher nitrogen content in the soil. When using ammonium nitrate as a fertilizer for these plants, you need to use about 25 grams. fertilizers per 1 sq.m.
Slightly less nitrogen is required for cucumbers, tomatoes, beets, corn cobs, carrots and greens. Also, a large amount of this element is not required for annual flowers, currants, apples and gooseberries. The site for these plants must be fertilized with ammonium nitrate at the rate of 20 grams. for 1 sq.m.
An even smaller amount of nitrogen (15 grams per square meter) is required for early potatoes, leafy vegetables, radishes and onions. The same amount of top dressing must be distributed in the places of planting of bulbous ornamental plants and pears.
Only 8 gr. for 1 sq.m. nitrogen fertilization is required for crops such as peas, spicy crops, beans, azalea, heather, poppy.
How to get the harvest all year round?
So, the hydroponic plant for growing greenery was purchased or designed and assembled by yourself. It remains to choose a substrate, figure out how to prepare the "pickle", and plant seedlings or seeds. Each stage must be treated with full responsibility, an error in the preparation of the solution or the wrong choice of substrate can lead to the death of the crop.
The choice of planting material: seeds or seedlings?
Both seeds and seedlings can be used to grow greens in a hydroponic plant. If you decide to stick with seeds, then first you need to germinate them. The seeds are placed in a plastic container filled with substrate. The top can be covered with another plastic cup to create a greenhouse effect.
The seed substrate should be chosen one that is easily washed off from the roots. Although the seeds can be germinated in the ground, it is better not to do this, because the soil is poorly cleaned from the roots and leaves.
After the seeds have sprouted, the seedlings need to be planted in the aquapots of the hydroponic plant. Make sure that the roots do not touch the solution, it will rise thanks to the capillary mechanism of the substrate. In the first week, there should be clean water in the tank, let the greens adapt. Only then can the nutrient solution be added.
If you plant seedlings right away, then the preliminary stage of germination and adaptation, like with seeds, is omitted. The roots are carefully washed from the ground and placed in a hydroponic plant. The brine is served immediately.
Choosing a substrate: where to plant?
Basic requirements for substrates:
- pass oxygen
- are absorbent
- do not enter into chemical reactions
- do not collapse under the influence of water.
There are natural substrates, created from natural components, and artificial ones, synthesized by a chemical method. The table shows the main types of substrates and their characteristics:
|P / p No.||Name||Characteristic|
|1||Expanded clay||Clay fired at temperatures above 1200 ° C. May decrease the acidity of the solution. Suitable for multiple use, easy to wash and clean.|
|2||Coconut fiber||Organic substrate made from coconut bark and ground coconut shells. It is able to retain nutrients, water and oxygen for a long time. Can be used as fertilizer in garden beds.|
|3||Vermiculite and perlite||Substances of volcanic origin. Used together - they complement each other. They retain moisture well.|
|4||Mineral wool||The cheapest, simplest and most effective substrate.|
Mineral wool, despite its cheapness and simplicity, is quite dangerous to use. Microparticles leave microscopic wounds on the skin, especially if they enter the respiratory tract and eyes. In addition, mineral wool is a man-made material and is difficult to dispose of.
How to prepare the nutrient solution?
Purchase the nutrient solution at a gardening store. The concentrate is diluted in accordance with the instructions, the composition and preparation methods may differ depending on the plant.
How to prepare a solution yourself? Cooking steps:
- prepare clean water with a temperature of + 18 ... + 20 ° С
- measure the required amount of concentrate with a syringe
- add the nutrients required for a particular plant - calcium, potassium nitrate, magnesium sulfate
- watch the acidity, which should fluctuate between pH 5.8-6.5.
What nutrients are needed for indoor greens? Growing onions for herbs, lettuce, basil, parsley, dill needs a concentrate with magnesium nitrate, phosphoric acid and potassium nitrate. Failure to follow the instructions, which is always sold with the concentrate, can lead to the destruction of the crop, therefore, dilute the nutrient liquid very carefully.
Many gardeners have lemons on their windows, even tangerines. These capricious pets require special care, only then will they please the owners with an abundance of fruits. Top dressing is not the last place in the care of citrus fruits.
2 months after planting, the soil even in the largest pot is depleted. Don't wait for the lemon to die. There are complex fertilizers for it:
- Zdraven Turbo
- Bona Forte
You can feed it with folk remedies just as well: sugar, coffee grounds, pink solution of potassium permanganate. It is useful to water with infusion of weeds. Put any weeds in a bucket, cover with water for a week. Then water at a rate of 1:10. It's nice to water it with ash - 1 tbsp. for 1 liter of water.
Lemon has a small root system, therefore it is necessary to feed often, but in small doses. In winter, less fertilization is required, so it is enough to feed once a month.
Mandarin also once a week you can feed 1 tsp. sugar, scattering it on the ground. Watering with potassium permanganate will help get rid of fungus and other diseases.
Hibiscus and gerbera
Chinese rose or hibiscus waiting for support during flowering. It will release even more gorgeous flowers if you feed it with banana peels. Water once every 2 weeks. Recipe for hibiscus: pour 5 liters of water into the peel of two bananas, let it brew for 3 days.
Sugar, succinic acid, yeast and aquarium water will also be good fertilizers for a flowering seedling.
It is not uncommon in the homes of florists to have a lush gerbera. To make the bushes delight with an abundance of flowers, feed it with sugar, coffee grounds, ash, yeast, onion cocktail, citrus infusion and banana peel.
- Fill one-third of the quart jar with citrus peels.
- Pour boiling water over, let it brew for 1 day.
- After a day, remove the skins, pour boiled water to the top. Water once a week.
Gerbera also loves watering with succinic acid, water from an aquarium.
Exotic lovers grow beautiful bamboo. How to feed him? Florists are advised to buy special fertilizers for dracaena, to breed as stated in the instructions. You can pour onion skins and an ash solution. Also, bamboo "will not refuse" watering once a quarter with citrus peel infusion.
Indoor fern should be fed from April to October with ready-made complex fertilizers. Watering and spraying with folk remedies also benefits him. Once a month, you can fertilize with a weak solution of potassium permanganate, infusion of banana peels, peroxide and sugar.
