Day 2 (May 5)
Early in the morning we land in Beijing. Here we are welcomed by our Swedish-speaking guide who takes us on an excursion to the beautiful The Summer Palace, Yi He Yuan - the garden where one cherishes harmony. In the late 18th century, the Qing emperors built this huge facility to escape Beijing's oppressive summer heat. Craftsmen gave the garden its architectural style based on various palaces in China. Lake Kunming was created by expanding an existing water area to resemble the West Lake in Hangzhou (which we will also visit during our trip). It is a pleasant excursion destination on the outskirts of the city and that the foremost example of imperial garden art in China. We take a boat trip and enjoy the beauty of the temples and pavilions. We also walk in it over 728 meters Long time no see with its thousands of paintings, depicting scenes from Chinese history, literature and mythology. At the end of the long corridor, we see the forever moored marble boat on the shores of Lake Kunmingsjön. After lunch we then go to the hotel for check-in and rest and in the evening we meet again for our welcome dinner which we eat at the popular and award-winning restaurant Dali Courtyard. The restaurant is located among the alleys of Beijing, the so-called hutongs, and serves food from the southern Yunnan province. Maybe you end the evening with a drink at one of the many bars located close to Lake Houhais, in the middle of the city. Lunch and dinner are included in today's program.
Day 3 (May 6)
Today, we travel over 2000 years back in time, when we get to walk on the largest building in history - Great Wall of China at Mutianyu or as the Chinese themselves say - the long wall. This part of the wall is located 90 km northeast of Beijing and is known for its many watchtowers. We take the cable car up and get the opportunity to walk a bit or just enjoy the view. It was China's first emperor in the 200s BC. ordered hundreds of thousands of men to join small, existing walls into a huge defense facility. The Great Wall of China has long been on the UNESCO World Heritage List and in 2007 it was also named one of the world's seven new wonders. On the way from the Great Wall of China, we stop at a village where we eat at the restaurant Bei Ga La which is run by the villagers. In the afternoon we go to Prince Gong Palace located in a fantastic little garden. A large stone area with small streams and terraces occupies a significant part of the garden, which bears the heavy but lazy name "the composite quintet of the most beautiful flowers". In the evening we see a fascinating, heartbreaking acrobatic show. We are eating Beijing for dinner. Lunch and dinner included.
Day 4 (May 7)
In the morning we start Temple of Heaven with its magnificent prayer hall, perhaps China's most beautiful building. Heaven was considered the supreme ruler and the emperor was called "Son of Heaven". At the blue shimmering roof of the prayer hall, the emperor sacrificed beautiful silk fabrics, animals and crops to heaven, which would lead to good harvests. In the Temple of Heaven, we experience the traditional morning gymnastics practiced by tens of thousands of people every morning in Beijing's parks. We're moving on Tiananmen Square, in the middle of Beijing, We walk across the huge square and cross Long Peace Avenue before we reach The Forbidden City which consists of several palaces with gardens. We visit a small private garden inside the Forbidden City. Inside the high walls lived the Chinese emperors, totally isolated from the outside world until the fall of the empire, 1911. In the evening we leave Beijing and take an evening flight to Tunxi at Gula Bergen in Anhui Province, about 300 km southwest of Shanghai. This mountain range, whose highest peaks reach over 1,800 meters, is located in one of China's most beautiful areas and is so adorable that it inspired an entire painting school during the Ming Dynasty. Many Chinese dream of climbing Huangshan with its rocky peaks, strangely shaped pine trees and crystal clear springs. Lunch and dinner included.
Day 5 (May 8)
Early in the morning we leave our hotel and get on the bus that will take us to Huangshanbergets Foot. After an hour's bus ride, we go up into the mountains by cable car and then at a comfortable pace hike for about an hour to some of the most famous peaks. Once up on one of the mountain tops, a good dinner and overnight stay at Hotel Bei hai awaits. We take overnight clothes with us in a backpack and we leave our remaining luggage at the hotel in Tunxi. The daytime temperature is between 15-25 degrees but in the evening it can get a little cooler, around 5-10 degrees. It will be possible to borrow real jackets at the hotel. Lunch and dinner included.
Day 6 (May 9)
The early risers go up at dawn to enjoy the beautiful sunrise. In the morning we go down the mountain by cable car and for a tour of the village Hong Cun which, together with the Huangshan Mountains, is on the World Heritage List. It was also here like the movie Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon was recorded. We also visit a bamboo forest before checking in at our hotel. Lunch and dinner included.
Day 7 (May 10)
After breakfast we pay a visit to Bao´s Clan Garden which boasts the largest collection of bonsai plants in China. Then we continue by bus to the city of Hangzhou where Marco Polo lived for a time during the 13th century. During the Song Dynasty, 1127, Hangzhou became the capital and ever since, it has had a special place in the heart of China as a city of boundless beauty and romance. Marco Polo considered the place to be one of the most beautiful on earth. We check in at our hotel and then have dinner. Lunch and dinner included.
Day 8 (May 11)
After breakfast we go to Västra Sjön for a boat trip. We also visit a tea plantation where we get to try Drakkällan's tea, known as China's best. After lunch we take the bus to the metropolis Shanghai. The city has transformed from being a sleepy port city to China's most expansive and economically important city. We check in at our hotel, and for dinner today we get to enjoy a Chinese specialty, jiaozi, also called dumplings. Lunch and dinner included.
Day 9 (May 12)
We start the day by taking the elevator up in Shanghai World Financial Center, China's tallest skyscraper, and gets a great view of the city. Far below, we see the colonial buildings along the world-famous parade street The Bund. We visit the fine Yu Garden with its beautiful gates, goldfish ponds and pavilions. The garden was laid out as early as the end of the 16th century and is classified as one of the most beautiful gardens in the whole country.
