Tomato White filling: an undeservedly forgotten early unpretentious variety
The old Russian tomato variety White filling has not lost its relevance for more than half a century. He adequately competes with modern varieties and hybrids, for many years "settled" on many amateur and farm plots. The tomato could be called the standard among the early ones with fruits of classic sizes, but there is one drawback that used to be significant, but today it is easily eliminated by simple agricultural methods.
Cultivation history and variety description
White filling was grown by our grandmothers, that is, it has already been known to at least three generations of gardeners. The application for registration of the selection achievement White filling tomato was received by the state commission for variety testing in 1960 from the educational and scientific center "Vegetable Experimental Station named after Edelstein" (Moscow). The variety is officially recognized and entered into a single register in 1966. Today, the copyright holders and originators are two companies: the agrofirm "Aelita" and the selection station named after Timofeev, as well as two individuals: M. D. Panova and N. M. Nasrullaev.
One of the originators of the variety White filling - agrofirm "Aelita"
The variety is zoned for regions with a harsh climate: the North, North-West and Western Siberia, as well as the Central, Central Black Earth, Volgo-Vyatka and Middle Volga regions. There is probably no tomato that is easier to grow and more grateful to care for.
The bush is determinant, that is, it has limited growth, not exceeding 60–70 cm. White filling does not require pinching, it grows as a fluffy tree and can do without supports. At the same time, the yield is very high, the variety has a huge potential. Depending on the weather conditions and the quality of care in industrial cultivation, 27–81 tons per hectare are harvested, in private gardens - from 2–3 kg per bush.
Not every variety manifests itself as such abundant fruiting.
The fruits are flat-round, slightly ribbed, the average weight of each is 100 g (the State Register indicates an average weight of 80 to 132 grams). There are more than four seed chambers inside. Unripe tomatoes are green. The stalk does not have a dark spot, but there is an unusual white tint, especially clearly visible in the sun. Ripe tomatoes are red. Taste Sweet and sour, pleasant, juicy pulp, there is a characteristic aroma for the culture. From the emergence of seedlings to the ripening of the first fruits, 95-105 days pass, Moreover, in the first week, up to 36% of the total harvest is ripened.

White filling is a universal tomato suitable for fresh consumption and canning. There is one drawback that gardeners pay so much attention to in vain - the variety is susceptible to late blight. But this is an early tomato. Almost the entire crop is harvested from it in July - August, and late blight manifests itself at the very end of summer - in autumn. That is, the White filling, if sown on time, leaves this disease, it simply does not have time to harm it. But even if sown late, the harvest will ripen by autumn, it will not be difficult to carry out prevention with modern fungicides.
Personal experience of growing White filling
With the cultivation of White filling, my career as a gardener began. It was back in the 90s. As the first tomatoes I chose the varieties that my mother grew - these are Bull's Heart, Moscow and White filling. Moscow from the moment of their sprouting from seeds have become my favorites. The bushes are strong, during the seedling period, even on a dark window, they did not stretch, they grew stocky, and in the garden they were completely covered with medium-sized tomatoes (up to 50 g), which were sung right on the bushes. For my region (Southwest Siberia) and those times, it was a wonder. However, my parents gave me seeds, I did not collect mine, and no matter how much I bought tomatoes with that name in stores, the same Moscow ones did not grow anymore. Oxheart tomatoes immediately struck off the list of tomatoes that I would ever want to plant. Productivity - one large tomato per bush did not suit me. This variety is not for beginners. But the White filling turned out to be the golden mean. His seeds are always on sale, and the same ones - without doubles, does not require maintenance, I just watered. Fruits are of classic size and flavor. There are a lot of them on the bushes. I grew it in the open field, in the conditions of our short summer, I picked unripe tomatoes and ripened at home. In the second year of my gardening, my husband set up a foil greenhouse. I occupied all of it with White filling. When sown in mid-March, in July, the bushes were hung with red fruits. That was the only year when I picked tomatoes in buckets, like in the south, about 15–20. We did not have time to eat and process the crop; we had to pick the tomatoes unripe, put them in boxes and lower them into the cellar so that they would not sing so quickly. And the greenhouse only occupied a plot of 5x3 m. Later, the assortment of tomatoes expanded, I began to buy and plant new items. White filling somehow undeservedly fell into oblivion. Regarding diseases, I do not remember such a problem during the cultivation period of this variety. I did not process anything, and I did not know how then. If the memories of high yields are brighter, it means that these tomato diseases were not so terrible even in the last century.
If you plant about 50 bushes of White filling in the greenhouse, then in the middle of summer you will not know where to go from the tomatoes

Growing seedlings, planting in a permanent place
Sowing can be started after March 8 and until early April. The earlier you sow, the faster the harvest will ripen, but keep in mind that by the time of planting in a permanent place, the seedlings should be no more than 60–70 days old. Transplant into open ground when the threat of frost has passed, and into protected ground 1–2 weeks earlier.
Video: how to calculate the date of sowing seeds
Do not forget about the susceptibility of White filling to fungal diseases. A week before sowing, disinfect the seedling soil: warm it up in any convenient way to 100 ⁰C. Let it cool and populate it with good bacteria. To do this, pour a solution of the biological product Fitosporin (1-2 tablespoons of paste concentrate per 10 liters of water). Decontaminate the seeds with potassium permanganate or immerse them in water heated to 50 ... 60 ⁰C for 5 minutes.
Disinfect the seeds before sowing
Optimum temperature for emergence and growth of tomatoes: +20 ... +22 ⁰C. Keep the seedlings on a light windowsill, water as the earth dries up. In the phase of the appearance of the first true leaf, plant the tomatoes in cups, you can deepen to the first true leaf. If it is still far away from planting to a permanent place, and the plants have outgrown their containers, they are cramped, then transplant again in a larger container. Feed the seedling fertilizer every 2 weeks. The most popular and reliable is Fertika Lux (1 tbsp. Per 10 liters of water).

If you plan to grow in the open field, then a week before planting, start hardening the seedlings: take them out under the open sky, first for 1 hour, then gradually increase the duration of the "walk" to a whole day. Also, prepare the garden bed no later than a week in advance.
Best precursors for tomatoes: cabbage, legumes, cucumbers. The place should be sunny. In the shade, the bushes will stretch out, the fruits will grow small, they will ripen for a long time.
Mark the site, taking into account the planting scheme - 40x50 cm. Spread a bucket of humus or compost and 0.5 liters of wood ash evenly for each square meter. You can also add to the hole: humus - a handful, ash - 1 tbsp. If there is no organic matter, then buy a special fertilizer for tomatoes. Today one of the most popular is Gumi-Omi. Mix the fertilizer with the soil, fill the wells with settled water, when it is absorbed, you can plant seedlings.
Tomato seedlings are planted in holes pre-filled with fertilizers and spilled
Prevention of late blight and macrosporiosis before and after planting in a permanent place
If late blight affects tomatoes at the end of summer, then still young plants can get sick with macrosporiosis. Therefore, prevent diseases from the very beginning of cultivation. After disinfection of seeds and soil for seedlings, the next step will be to treat the planting site on the site and the tomatoes themselves with fungicides (Bordeaux mixture, HOM, Skor):
- Before planting seedlings, spray the soil, and if you are planting in a greenhouse or greenhouse, then also all surfaces and structures.
- Spray the tomatoes and the soil underneath 7-10 days after transplanting.
- After 10-14 days, repeat the previous treatment again.
White filling is prone to disease, but infection can be prevented with prevention
Tomato care White filling
Caring for this variety is the easiest:
- You do not need to break out any stepsons, remove only the lower leaves that touch the ground, as well as yellowed, stained, dried ones.
Be sure to remove such leaves, they have already shown signs of disease
- Pegs are optional, but advisable, especially if your area experiences strong winds and heavy rainfall. Plants can tumble to one side and the fruit gets muddy. There is no wind in greenhouses and greenhouses, but the bushes grow taller than in the open field. From this they become less stable, under the weight of the harvest they will bend to the ground.
Without support, bushes hung with fruits can fall on their side
- Water every 2-3 days, using 2-3 liters of water under the bush. If it rains, the ground is wet, then, of course, there is no need to water.
In hot weather, water the tomatoes twice a week.
- After watering, loosen the soil, or even better, keep it under mulch.
Loosen the ground under the tomatoes so that a crust does not form
- Feed once every 2 weeks with a complex fertilizer with macro- and microelements. Ready-made mixtures for tomatoes are suitable: Agricola, Clean Leaf, Fertika, etc. You can not feed only organic matter rich in nitrogen (bird droppings, mullein, horse manure, etc.). The bushes will fatten, you will not wait for the fruits.
Fertilizer for tomatoes should be complex, that is, contain nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium and trace elements
- Poke up with damp earth if tubercles have formed in the lower part of the stem - the rudiments of air roots. Additional roots will improve the nutrition of the bush, and the yield will increase. But many do without this agricultural technique, since, by hilling, it is possible to bare and even damage those roots that are in the ground. In addition, hilled tomatoes are not very convenient to water. We'll have to make an irrigation furrow.
Sometimes root rudiments form on the stems, it is possible, but not necessary, to sprinkle them with earth
If you adhere to all these rules, then White filling will surprise you with yield. But even with minimal maintenance, consisting of only watering and weeding, the productivity of this variety will be impressive.
Collection, storage and processing of crops
Of course, first of all, you must get enough of fresh tomatoes. After all, there is no more healthful and delicious fruit that is grown with your own hands and ripe ripe right from the bush. The surplus can be salted, frozen, processed into juice, or you can prepare the famous dish in Siberia and the Urals - Khrenovin. And to keep tomatoes fresh, pluck them unripe and keep them in the refrigerator or cellar. They will stay there for 2-3 weeks. Ripe fruits do not differ in high keeping quality - no more than a week.

Reviews of gardeners
White filling is an undemanding tomato that gives a rich harvest to both professionals and beginners. Due to its early maturity, it can be grown in regions with short summers. Even in Siberia, most of the harvest has time to ripen on bushes in the open field. The emphasis in care should be placed on the prevention of fungal diseases. In hot and dry weather, watering is needed.

This variety of domestic selection was bred in the 21st century. It is superdeterminate. The plant has the following characteristics:
- height - up to 65 cm (undersized)
- sprawling, not standard
- does not need a pick
- relatively little greenery, the bush looks sparse.
Seed producers claim: Blast can be grown both outdoors and in a greenhouse. However, gardeners' reviews indicate that tomato grows worse under film or glass than in the fresh air.
The hybrid belongs to early plants, the first tomatoes ripen 100-110 days after germination. The fruits look like this:
Attention! Compared to other varieties, Explosion contains more vitamins A, C and K, as well as lycopene.
The explosion is widely used in cooking. Fresh tomatoes are used to prepare slices, salads and other dishes. Also the variety is suitable for conservation. Especially delicious, judging by the reviews, sauces and tomato ketchups Explosion. In addition, the culture tolerates transportation well, it is stored for a rather long time and looks attractive on the counter.
Description and characteristics of tomato White filling, reviews, photos
An early, determinant, undersized tomato variety for open ground and temporary film shelters. The period from germination to maturation is 100-115 days.
The bush is medium-leafy, 0.4-0.5 meters high, which does not require pinching, but a garter to the support is desirable. Many gardeners still remove stepchildren to the first flower cluster, which speeds up the ripening of the first fruits.
The leaf of this tomato is medium-sized, large, green, slightly corrugated. The inflorescence is of a simple and intermediate type, fruits in the cluster are from 3 to 6. The first inflorescence is laid above 6-7 leaves, the subsequent ones every 1-2 leaves.
The main qualities of the fruit
Fruits are flat-round, smooth, of medium density, at the stage of ripeness, red, weighing 80-130 grams, good (for early varieties) taste. They do not crack, transportability is good. These tomatoes are universal in purpose - suitable for fresh salads, juices, sauces, pickling and canning.
Tomato yield White filling: up to 8 kg of fruits per 1 sq. meter of planting (subject to agricultural technology, watering and feeding).
Advantages of the variety: stable harvest in any summer, long fruiting period, resistance to fruit cracking, good taste.
This variety of tomatoes is included in the State Register of Breeding Achievements of the Russian Federation for growing in the open field in personal subsidiary plots.

How to grow tomatoes
When the seedlings get stronger and reach a height of 20 cm, they can be transplanted into the beds.
Tomatoes are best planted on the southern or southeastern side of the garden. A good harvest is obtained on loamy or sandy soils, where cucumbers, onions, and zucchini used to grow. Tomatoes, bell peppers, eggplants and potatoes are considered bad predecessors - plants suffer from some infections.
Tomatoes do not like crowding, so the optimal distance between the bushes is 50 cm. A good planting method is square-nesting: plant the bushes in the corners of an imaginary square, each side of which is 50-60 cm.In the center, make an irrigation pit with a diameter of 40 cm, on the bottom of which put 1 liter of ash or a handful of superphosphate and potassium sulfate, on top - beveled grass without seeds and rhizomes.
Tomato care White filling
The variety is picky to care for. Abundant root watering is required 2 times a week, before sunrise. Avoid watering in the evening, if the air temperature drops below +20 degrees at night, otherwise the tomato will get sick with fungus.
Plant roots need oxygen, so weed and loosen the soil often. When forming lateral roots, huddle.
Two weeks after planting on the beds, the plants can be fed with both organic and inorganic fertilizers. Twice more feeding is carried out during the formation of the ovary.
Important! Nutrients will reach their intended destination faster through the moistened soil, so tomatoes need to be watered before fertilizing.
Tomatoes White filling does not need pinching and shaping the bush. But to increase the yield on the plant, leave 2-3 stems. Tear off your stepsons carefully - it is better when they reach a length of 4-5 cm, when it is easier to assess their viability. It is allowed to remove unnecessary ones after the beginning of flowering. In this case, it is better to tie up the bushes - the fruits will be larger and the plant may fall to the ground.
Important to remember! It is advisable to remove stepchildren by hand. When using a knife, there is a high probability of transferring diseases on the blade from bush to bush. If using a knife, the blade must be disinfected when transferring to a new plant.
Features of cultivation and possible difficulties
One of the significant difficulties in growing is the susceptibility of the variety to late blight. Therefore, it is not advisable to plant White filling 241 next to potatoes or in an area where potatoes grew earlier - fungal spores can remain in the soil or be transferred from diseased neighbors. In addition, water the tomatoes only at the root and remove the lower leaves.
Diseases and pests
White filling 241 is an ultra-early tomato variety. Fruit ripening begins in late July - early August, and fungal diseases are actively spreading in late summer - early autumn. Therefore, with early planting of tomatoes, phytosporosis does not have time to infect the bushes. However, if you planted tomatoes later than the period recommended by manufacturers or in case of prolonged cool and wet weather, carry out preventive treatment of the bushes with Fitosporin solution.
Nasturtium or marigolds planted near tomatoes are saved from pests - their smell frightens off many harmful insects.
Advantages and disadvantages, differences from other varieties
The Liang tomato variety quickly gained popularity among amateur gardeners and small farmers due to its many obvious advantages. The most important of them include:
- unpretentious care
- early ripening of tomatoes and, at the same time, the duration of fruiting
- excellent taste of ripe fruits
- good yield for an early variety
- long-term storage and good transportability of the crop
- excellent presentation of tomatoes
- versatility of crop destination
- high resistance to the main types of diseases.
- low resistance to tobacco mosaic
- high foliage, requiring the removal of excess green mass during the ripening of the crop.
An amazing feature of the variety is that, judging by the published data, its yield in Siberia, characterized by a high risk of cultivating heat-loving plants, is significantly higher than that in, for example, the Moscow region. It is difficult to understand this phenomenon, but statistics say it is.
The Liang variety, which bears fruit with tomatoes of the usual form (shape and color), inherent in many other varieties, compares favorably with most of them in terms of the totality of consumer properties. So, for example, for a long time one of the best early varieties of tomatoes was considered to be the well-known variety White filling. And although the ripe fruits of these varieties are very similar to each other, the White filling is distinguished by the presence of a significantly larger number of seed chambers.
The ripe fruits of the White filling differ little in appearance from Liana
A fairly early ripening variety, the Shuttle, also successfully used in whole-fruit canning, has a completely different tomato shape and low disease resistance. The very old variety Siberian early ripening is significantly inferior to Lyana in taste, and the relatively young variety Yablonka of Russia grows in a taller bush. The comparison of varieties can be continued endlessly: today there are a lot of tomatoes that are somewhat similar to Liang, and each one can find both positive and negative features.
Diseases and pests
Tomatoes of the aforementioned type exhibit extremely high resistance to all diseases, however, it is recommended to prevent late blight, tobacco mosaic and top rot. To protect the garden from pests, it is necessary to carry out treatment with insecticidal preparations.
Proper care of Alenka tomatoes is guaranteed to provide you with a rich harvest of delicious tomatoes that you can use both for personal consumption and for sale. Due to their positive qualities, they have rather high commercial characteristics.
